11 settembre 2001, le foto del giorno dell'attentato alle Torri Gemelle

epa13210548 (FILE) - Smoke continues to rise from the destroyed World Trade Center in New York, USA, 15 September 2001 (reissued on 04 September 2026). On 11 September 2001, during a series of coordinated terror attacks using hijacked airplanes, two airplanes were flown into the World Trade Center's twin towers, causing the collapse of both towers. A third plane targeted the Pentagon, and a fourth plane heading towards Washington, DC ultimately crashed into a field. The 09/11 attacks were the deadliest terrorist attacks to occur on U.S. soil. In the days that followed, thousands of construction workers, firefighters, police officers, and volunteers flocked to the World Trade Center site to search for survivors and begin recovery efforts. Air travel came to a standstill, and people posted missing-person flyers all over the city as they moved through the dust and ash floating over Lower Manhattan EPA/KEITH MEYERS / POOL / POOL
