NEW YORK, 01 APR - Quasi 83 anni dopo sono stati dati un nome e un volto ai resti di un soldato americano morto durante l'attacco a Pearl Harbor (Hawaii). David Walker, 19 anni, originario di Norfolk in Virginia, è stato identificato grazie all'analisi del Dna. Lo riferisce la Cnn. Walker era in servizio sulla nave da guerra 'USS California', attraccata a Pearl Harbor all'alba del 7 dicembre del 1941 quando i giapponesi lanciarono un attacco a sorpresa sulla base navale americana. La nave fu colpita da diverse bombe e siluri, prese fuoco e affondò. I 103 militari a bordo, tra cui appunto Walker, morirono tutti. I resti dei soldati recuperati furono seppelliti in diversi cimiteri delle Hawaii. Il corpo del giovane militare fu riesumato nel 2018 assieme ad altri 24 tumulati come 'ignoti'. Un esame avanzato del Dna ne ha consentito l'identificazione. Walker era uno studente di scuola superiore in Virginia quando decise di abbandonare gli studi l'anno prima di morire per arruolarsi. Il prossimo settembre i suoi resti saranno sepolti nell'Arlington National Cemetery, il cimitero militare monumentale alle porte di Washington D.C.
