MANILA, 06 APR - Le Filippine terranno domani esercitazioni navali congiunte con Stati Uniti, Giappone e Australia nel Mar Cinese Meridionale in un contesto di crescente influenza della Cina nella regione. Lo hanno annunciato i quattro Paesi. "Dimostrando il nostro impegno collettivo nel rafforzare la cooperazione regionale e internazionale verso un Indo-Pacifico libero e aperto - si legge nel comunicato congiunto - le nostre forze militari ed eserciti di difesa combinati terranno un'attività di cooperazione marittima nella zona economica esclusiva filippina il 7 aprile 2024". All'inizio di questa settimana, la nave da guerra australiana HMAS Warramunga è arrivata nella provincia filippina di Palawan, vicino a una zona marittima contesa. L'anno scorso, le tensioni regionali si sono intensificate, con la Cina che ha affermato in modo più deciso le sue rivendicazioni sulle aree marittime rivendicate anche dalle Filippine e dal Giappone, nonché sull'isola governata autonomamente di Taiwan. In risposta, gli Stati Uniti hanno cercato di rafforzare le proprie alleanze nella regione, in particolare con i suoi tradizionali alleati Giappone e Filippine.
