Golan Heights is a mountainous region and plateau in southwestern Syria that borders Lebanon, Jordan and Israel. The Syrian Golans overall land mass is 1,860 square kilometers. Approximately 1,230 square kilometers of the Golan was occupied by Israel during the Six-Day War in June 1967. According to Syrian resources, the population of the Syrian Golan was estimated to be 147,613 persons in 1966. Around 80 percent of the population was Arab, and the majority of those remaining were from other ethnics , Circassians, Daghestani, Chechens, Turkmen and hundreds of Armenians. TEL AVIV, 18 MAG - In una complessa operazione del Mossad, in collaborazione con un servizio di intelligence alleato, è stato trasferito in Israele l'archivio ufficiale siriano sulla leggendaria spia israeliana Eli Cohen. Lo riferisce l'ufficio di Benyamin Netanyahu. L'archivio contiene migliaia di reperti top secret custoditi dai servizi siriani. In un incontro speciale che si è tenuto oggi, alla presenza del primo ministro Benyamin Netanyahu e del capo del Mossad David Barnea, sono stati presentati alla vedova di Eli Cohen, Nadia, oggetti personali e il testamento scritto da Cohen poche ore prima della sua esecuzione a Damasco il 18 maggio 1965.
