Civil society organizations say the damage being inflicted on the marine ecosystem by the increasing concentration of fishing vessels in the Bosphorus has reached irreversible levels. They also point out that the ever-increasing number of large fishing vessels is blocking fish migration routes and disrupting the migration cycle from the Black Sea to the Marmara Sea through wild hunting. According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, 290,068 tons of marine fish were caught in 2024. EPA/TOLGA BOZOGLU
