Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stated on 11 March 2025 that he is willing to reach 2 percent of GDP in military spending by next year, before 2029, and reaffirmed support for the EU's 'ReArm Europe' defense plan, saying the arms race will also provide an opportunity to reindustrialize Spain and the continent. With about 1.28 percent spent on defense last year, Spain is proportionally one of the lowest NATO defense spenders. EPA/LAVANDEIRA JR
