James Earl 'Jimmy' Carter, Jr. was born on 01 October 1924 in the village of Plains, Georgia, USA. After school he enrolled in the US Navy until 09 October 1953 after which he returned to his native village to extend the family peanut farm. In 1961 Jimmy Carter was elected to the state senate and on 12 January 1971 he became Governor of Georgia. In 2002 he became the only US President to receive the Nobel Peace Prize after leaving office. NEW YORK, 29 DIC - "L'America e il mondo hanno perso un leader straordinario" con la scomparsa di Jimmy Carter, che "ho avuto l'onore di chiamare per decenni un mio amico". Lo afferma Joe Biden, ordinando funerali di stato a Washington per l'ex presidente. "E' stato un uomo di carattere e coraggio, speranza e ottimismo", un "uomo di principio, fede e umiltà" che "ci ha mostrato che siamo un grande paese perché siamo persone brave, onorevoli, coraggiose, umili e forti". "Ha lavorato senza sosta per un mondo migliore e più giusto". Bill e Hillary Clinton ricordano così Jimmy Carter. "Guidato dalla fede, il presidente Carter ha vissuto per servire gli altri fino alla fine", affermano Bill e Hillary Clinton in una nota.
